Ben Spencer/Jonah Pastern

Honestly when I read the Third book I rather hated Jonah. So much so that I bought Jackdaws and then didn’t read it for several months until I was desperate. BUt then I saw how wonderful and tragic their relationship is. I love their initial dynamic - Jonah a thief and Ben a cop. And also that Jonah was trying to protect Ben the whole time. Honestly, by the time I made it to the end of Jackdaw I kind of hated Stephen for that last scene!

Prompts:

  • Scenes of cute domesticity from their cottage before shit hit the fan.

  • Accidental sex magic creates a baby. How do the people in their community react when their imp and his “Friend” have a baby? Do they just pretend it’s whatever? If Jonah is the pregnant one (and I have no real preference here.) how does he feel about not windwalking anymore? Does he windwalk while pregnant?

  • Scenes of domestic bliss after the book while they work at the Inn.

  • Other judiciaries from London track them down. How do they react? How does the town react?

A Charm of Magpies - KJ Charles

I was given the first of these books for Yuleswap last year and absolutely adored them! I loved the setting, and the inclusion of magic in the series as well as the period typical homophobia (I know that’s not normally a thing you see in fandom, but it was nice, it gave the story even more of an edge as the characters traverse their world.)

I think one of the things that really stood out to me in the book was the poem at the front. I didn’t think it was going to be important so I barely skimmed it, but then it suddenly made sense in context as I got to the climatic scenes and from there on I was hooked.

Stephen Day/Lucian Vaudrey

There is so much to say about these two. First and foremost I love the height difference and the power imbalance. Anyone could look at them and think that Lucian is obviously the most powerful in their relationship but that’s not true and I love it. I also love Lucian’s personality - the whole “I’m a rich person I’ll do what I want,” vs the “grew up doing illegal shit in a foreign country to survive and will gladly cut your throat,” is a very interesting characterization for them. I love Stephen’s dedication to his job, but that he’s also not an idealist. Like he doesn’t think he can make people better.

Prompts:

  • Them traveling post cannon! Take them new and exciting places!

  • Sex Magic! It’s cannon that Lucian’s “blood, bones, or birdspit” gives Stephen more power. Maybe they try to channel that power, together into a bigger magical act.

  • Accidental sex magic creates a baby.
